Art Books
I’m constantly adding to my bookshelf to the detriment of my wallet.

Dynamic Anatomy - Figure drawing book by Burne Hogarth

Bridgman’s Life Drawing - Classic must-have book about life drawing

Spectrum 13: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art Annual publication featuring the best sci-fi/fantasy art

The Art of Cars - I love this movie, and the art is wonderful

Writing With Pictures: How to Write and Illustrate Children’s Books - A good book about children’s publishing

The Art of Animal Drawing: Construction, Action Analysis, Caricature - My favorite animal drawing book, and it’s pretty darn cheap

Children’s Books
I work primarily as a children’s illustrator, so I have plenty of these.

Elfis - My first picture book that I have illustrated. My next one comes out in 2008.

Monster Museum - A great book by a great artist. Be sure to check out all of Gris Grimley’s stuff.

Sloop John B: A Pirate’s Tale - By one of my other favorite illustrators, Jimmy Pickering.

Roger, the Jolly Pirate - Picture book by the illustrator of the Lemony Snicket series.

Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You (Spiderwick Chronicles) - You simply must check out Tony DiTerlizzi’s work, and this is a great book. Also look for the series that inspired it.

The Spider and the Fly - Another book from DiTerlizzi. It’s one of my favorite picture books.

Moongirl: The Collector’s Edition Book and DVD Gift Set - Very interesting book from the people that brought you The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. It also includes a DVD with an animated short on it.

Castles: Old Stone Poems - A book illustrated by a friend of mine, Dan Burr. It was painted digitally, if you would like to see what kinds of things are possible on the computer.

Un-Brella - The first picture book from another friend, Scott E. Franson. He taught me everything I know about Photoshop and Apple computers. Will be released in Spring 2007.
