I’ve started a new personal project to create a series of illustrations based on some of my favorite kid lit books. These are a couple that I have started based on E.B. White’s Stuart Little and Roald Dahl’s The BFG.
Though I’m pleased with my progress so far, I am not entirely happy yet, so I’m looking for feedback from all you artists out there (non-artists are welcome too!). Please send any critiques and suggestions my way. I need your help to make these illustrations stellar.
These are some sketches that I painted last week. All of them were colored during live broadcasts from my new uStream channel at uStream.tv. You can view the archived videos here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/dani-draws
These uStream broadcasts have been really fun to do. Viewers can interact via a chat window, and I can comment on my process as I am working. Starting next week, I am going to try to broadcast daily at 10 AM EST. Each session lasts about an hour. For more info and full schedule, please visit this page: http://danidraws.com/dani-draws-live/
As always, comments, critiques, and questions are always welcome.
Here’s a small teaser, recorded from one of the broadcasts (more video snippets here):
Well, Thanksgiving is over and I had a great weekend with my family. I’m sooo excited for Christmas! I painted this image weeks ago and have been waiting and waiting to post it. My sister made the patterns for me. They were fun to experiment with. Happy Christmas season!
These are a couple new images I made for fun, and I’ve decided to use them for my Christmas card. I was going to wait until after I sent them before I shared these, but then I thought – what the heck! I’ll just show them now.
And if you’re thinking, “But it’s not even Halloween yet!” – to you I say, “Humbug!” We get in the holiday spirit early at my house. :)
This is the cover of a promo booklet I’ve been working on. I’ve been covering the process over on my other blog (my latest post here). Comments, critiques, or suggestions for this image and the rest of the project are welcome.
This is a recent painting I did for fun. It is based on Mr. Tumnus from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. I liked experimenting with the simple composition, subtle background, and limited color palette. Comments and critiques are welcome.
I just had a wonderful Christmas with my family. I hope all of you have a Happy New Year.
And I have to share a cool story… Some time ago, my sister wrote to Glen Keane (the guy who animated Disney’s Ariel and Tarzan) and asked if he would make a sketch for me. And, lo and behold, he did! My sister received it just in time to surprise me on Christmas.
This cute illustration is based on an old photo of my grandparents. It is meant to be a surprise for them, but I’m pretty certain they don’t read this blog. However, Nana, if you’re reading this, sorry to spoil it for you. :)
