Kids Read Comics 2011 Recap

Kids Read Comics

I just got back from the Kids Read Comics event in Chelsea, Michigan. It was super fun! I’ve attended professional conferences and mingled with other artists and authors before, but this was my first event where I got to meet readers, fans, and kids! There’s no greater thrill for someone like me than seeing someone get excited about your art or walk away with a fistful of comics. Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table, shook my hand, chatted with me, and let me draw stuff for you.

And a special THANK YOU to the KRC organizers and Jerzy Drozd for rounding up all the terrific artists and putting together such a fantastic event.

Kids Read Comics 2011

This weekend, I will be heading to Chelsea, Michigan to attend an event called Kids Read Comics. It is a free comic convention especially for kids and teens. Not only can you meet tons of great artists and comic creators, but there are also lots of other activities and workshops going on throughout the weekend. And did I mention it’s FREE?! Yes, free.

I will be there in the artist alley selling books and art, and will be participating in some of the activities. I would love to meet you if you can make it. I will even draw you something!

There are also a TON of other great artists attending, including Raina Telgemeier (Smile, The Baby-Sitters Club) and Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy).

Kids Read Comics is June 18-19 at the Chelsea District Library in Chelsea, Michigan (near Ann Arbor). You can go to their website for all the details, directions, and full list of artists attending.

The Making of a Comic Page Videos

I broadcasted on Ustream last week. It was tons of fun! It was nice to be back and chatting with friends again. I will be broadcasting again this week – Wednesday June 8 at 12 noon ET and Friday June 10 at 10 AM ET. I’ll be making some more comic pages. Stop by, chat, and ask questions. You can watch at Hope to see you there!

Here are the full videos from the two broadcasts. The first is sketching and drawing the line art of a comic page, and the second is me coloring it in Photoshop.
